Topic: Scotland: post-Brexit rural areas and issues
Drawing particularly on work currently being undertaken in the Scottish Government’s Strategic Research Programme 2016-21, this contribution to the panel will explore the current and future concerns of Scotland’s rural communities and the businesses within them (both agricultural and non-agricultural). These will be discussed in the context of the relevant Scottish and UK policy context and of theoretical debates and concepts regarding rural community development, including neoendogenous development and social innovation. The contribution will highlight some of the key opportunities and challenges for Scotland’s rural communities in a post-Brexit world, again making reference to the likely future policy framework when the UK leaves the EU.
