The local organizing committee is Ruralis. We are an independent research foundation located at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. Ruralis hosted the XI World Congress of Rural Sociology in Trondheim in 2004 and the 3rd Nordic Conference for Rural Research in 2014, however, it is yet to host an ESRS Congress. Our staff members, who number around 30, are enthusiastic about hosting the next congress.
Trondheim is Norway’s third largest city. It was Norway’s capital from 1030 to 1217. The city has played a key role in Norway’s history, and the Nidaros Cathedral has been a popular pilgrimage site for nearly 1000 years.
We will host the welcome reception in the Archbishop’s Palace next to Nidaros Cathedral (a 20 minute walk from the Congress venue)
Situated in the middle of Norway, Trondheim can easily be reached by air, train or bus.
There are daily flight connections between Værnes Airport Trondheim and many European cities, and frequent flights between the capital of Oslo and Trondheim. The airport is serviced by major airlines including KLM and SAS.
The travel distance from the Congress hotel to the nearest international airport, Værnes Airport Trondheim, is about 30 km. The Airport bus goes every 10 minutes and stops directly outside the Clarion Hotel & Congress. If train is preferred, there is a pedestrian walkway from the Trondheim central train station to the congress hotel – a four minute walk.
The hotel is located by the harbour in Central Trondheim, and is one of Scandinavia’s largest convention hotels with 400 rooms and 18 meeting rooms.
Accommodation available to participants: Clarion Hotel & Congress can offer between 200 and 250 rooms. We have negotiated good prices: NOK 890 for a single room and NOK 990 for a double (breakfast included). (less than 100 EURO)
See you in Trondheim in 2019 – welcome!
