The XXVIIIth ESRS conference will host the pre-conference Workshop ‘Becoming an effective researcher: networks, funding, impact and publishing’ in Trondheim, Norway, 24-25th June, 2019.

Becoming an effective research scholar is challenging. Not only is it important to do research and share findings with the scientific community, but getting that research into the public domain is of increasing importance. Knowledge of the publication ‘game’ is an important tool for the effective researcher, so too is becoming embedded in relevant research networks. All too often early career researchers attend events that might not be the best use of their time and yet very simple tips, including time management, can clarify how best to target conferences. Attendees will be able to learn about publishing, networks, funding and impact from established researchers. The editor of Sociologia Ruralis will discuss strategies for getting published. This is an ideal opportunity to hone your skills, seek advice and learn more about how to be an effective researcher.

There are up to 20 places for early career researchers, offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please apply today to the Chair of the Scientific Committee ruth.mcareavey@ncl.ac.uk. Include a paragraph on your research area along with justification that you are an early career researcher (currently doing your PhD or have qualified within 3 years) and your interest in ESRS.

The pre-conference will not require a registration fee and lunch will be sponsored by Ruralis. It will start on Monday 1pm and end on Tuesday at lunch (before the main conference starts).
